St. John's Chapel

St. John's Chapel

The chapel is indicative of the typical Plečnik interpretation of a Greek temple or a treasury with the central Ionic column supporting the architrave. On the upper side it passes into a tympanum, while beneath it is an amphora made of artificial stone. The chapel has a vestibule. It is paved with terrazzo and the catafalque is made of Podpeč stone. Below the wooden cassette ceiling is a ceiling lamp with the head of Jesus. An unusual cross with three crossbars derives from the Byzantine iconography. A special trait is the figure of angel with open arms above the image of Christ.
