St. Francis' Chapel

St. Francis' Chapel

The chapel's facade is divided vertically and ends in an extremely rich frieze with a leaf motif that supports the roof. The semi-circular windows are consistent with the barrel roof shape of the adjacent St. Andrew's Chapel, which is through the barrel-shaped covered passage connected with St. Francis' Chapel. Beneath every window is a volute with a figure of monk with bent head and mouth covered with a cloth, reaching above the window shelf level. The interior features a dark cassette ceiling. In the front, a round chandelier with a column motif is hanging from the centre of the cassette like a miniature tholos. Attached by chains to the crossbeam is a large forged cross in the shape of a heart with a small crucified Christ and a prominent halo.
