Entrance propylaea
The propylaea architecture has been designed as a two-storey colonnade with the central concave arch. The storeys are separated by a cornice. The lower columns are higher and more massive; the upper are lighter, thinner and with a narrower cornice. The two storeys are not divided by a ceiling, only a network of architraves above the densely situated columns. At the level of the lower columns, the propylaea are surrounded by the storey wings, serving as administrative buildings. The facade is strictly symmetrical. The wings slightly pan out from the entrance. Placed on each side of the entrance there are columns in triplets, in a shape of a concave curve. The facade of the administrative buildings is divided by three vertical window axes. Pilasters between them tone down the dynamics. The magnificent entrance to the city of the dead is topped with a double statue of Christ, facing the city and accepting the soul of the deceased, and St. Mary the Protectress in a cloak, facing the city of the dead and inspiring new hope in the living.
