Double Chapel of St. George and Ss. Cyril and Methodius

Double Chapel of St. George and Ss. Cyril and Methodius

The double chapel is shaped like a Greek cross, underneath which are the chapels, leaning against the high passage in between. The passage is accentuated by coloured cassette ceiling and thick columns with stylised Roman capitals. The ceiling of the Chapel of St. George is designed like a flattened brick barrel vault resting on longitudinal beams, whereas in the Chapel of Ss. Cyril and Methodius the same motif is evident in the shallow brick arch. Both chapels are lit by the light coming through three large rosettes. In the Chapel of St. George, a brass cross with stone sets hangs from under the ceiling, which is Plečnik's version of crux gemmata. The Chapel of Ss. Cyril and Methodius is void of a cross. A branched brass chandelier with conical lamp fixtures hangs from the ceiling.
