Municipality of Rijeka is administrating the cemeteries of Rijeka through its public companies since 1872 when it adopted the Kozala cemetery. In 1955 the current company KD Kozala is established which manages the three cemeteries in the city.
As one of the earliest members of ASCE, KD Kozala always took strong emphasis on preserving and promoting cultural heritage in the cemeteries.
Becoming a member of European Cemeteries route is another important step in development of Cultural heritage aspect as KD Kozala is now proactively working on opening the parks of memories in Rijeka to the visitors from all over the world.
