Plaque Umberto Boccioni

Plaque Umberto Boccioni

New Cemetery, intercolumniation II
The gravestone was created in 1916 by an unknown author.

Umberto Boccioni, the leading exponent of futurism, died during a military exercise in 1916 in the locality of Sorte, near Chievo, and for this he was buried in the Monumental Cemetery of Verona.

On his humble plaque stands the emblem of the Cycling and Motoring Volunteers. His mother Cecilia, who died years later, rests beside him.

Curiosity: on the plaque is still legible the signature in pencil left by Gino Severini, a friend of him and also a painter.
