Slavko Jan, 1904-1987
The director and actor was born in Zagorje ob Savi. To refine his theatrical skills, he studied at the school of the Theatre ActorsAssociation. In 1923, he started working for the Slovene National Theatre SNG Drama Ljubljana. He portrayed central characters in Cankar’s plays and appeared in many main and title roles in classic and modern plays. He started establishing himself as the director after 1945, initially in the Ljubljana Drama, then in Maribor, Trieste, Zagreb and Belgrade. He was also the Director of the SNG Drama Ljubljana for two terms. Starting in 1955, he was the full professor for direction at AGRFT in Ljubljana. In 1949 and 1980 he received the Prešeren award for his achievements, and in 1974 he received the Borštnik Ring award.

The drama actress and educator Vida Juvan was born in Ljubljana. She attended the all-girls grammar school and gained her acting skills at the school of the Theatre Actors Association in Ljubljana. In 1922 she performed in Subotica in Serbia, and from 1923 to 1962 she was a permanent member of the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Drama. In theatre, radio and TV plays she portrayed over 500 roles. She is considered a top interpreter and a character actress. For years, she taught in drama acting and artistic word at AGRFT in Ljubljana for years, and educated several generations of Slovenian actors. She received two Sterijeva awards (1959 and 1978). She received the Prešeren award in 1971, and also the Borštnik Ring award in 1977. In 1996, Slovenia paid tribute to her mission by awarding her with the Silver Order of Freedom of RS.
