Entrance to the Cemetery- The Weary Traveller sculpture

Entrance to the Cemetery- The Weary Traveller sculpture

An illustration of the theme of weary pilgrim leaning on the cross.
Separate from the cemetery fields formed, placed in such a way as to provide a decorative note at the entry to the cemetery, is the Weary Traveller sculpture. Formally, it is a typical version of the theme of the tired pilgrim who is realaxing while laening on the cross, a kond of funerary marker that appears on some more important graves, particulary produced by very distinguished sculptors, on the whole in the last quarter of the 19th century. The stone plinth, as in the Karlovac example, is always high, with mouldings, an extended hexagonal plan, the sculptures differing only slightly in the working of details and in the phisiognomy.
