Tomb Gatti

Tomb Gatti

Sculptor G. Benetti 1875

In the family Gatti’s tomb the widow, who has been portrayed while she was sitting and wearing modern clothes and whose face is deeply marked by the pain, and another feminine figure, who represents the Pain, are portrayed in front of the chapel wall while they are collecting their thoughts in some kind of mute talks.

This monument witnesses that the attention is paid not only to the naturalistic concreteness and to the detail’s “realistic” representation, but also to the representation of some figures who are part of a symbolical or even religious world. The iconographical scheme is completed by a bas-relief with the story of the Widow of Nain.
