He was professor of literature, journalist, historian. He was active in the Italian resistance with the “G. L.” formations. He contributed to “Italia libera” and “Giustizia e Libertà”. In 1947 he began working at “La Stampa”, of which he became deputy director. Hit by terrorists, he died after an agony of 13 days. He is one of the most significant figures of what Spadolini has called “L’Italia della ragione”, for his courageous commitment against barbarism to “defend freedom.”
