The Monument offers panoramic views over London. It was built to commemorate the Great Fire which devastated the City of London in 1666.
The Monument which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke and constructed with Portland stone in years 1671-1677 measures 202 feet.

The simple Doric column is topped by a flaming urn of copper gilded with two layers of gold leaf to symbolize the Great Fire.

311 stairs till panoramic view.

If you climb the 311 steps to the balcony at the top you are rewarded with breath-taking views of the City, as well as a certificate of achievement.
