A lantern. A festival.

Every February during the Lantern Festival, thousands of flying lanterns illuminate the night skies of northern part of the country and evoke an amazing magical scene in the sky.
The Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival is an annual event hosted by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Starting from 1990, the Tourism Bureau integrated civilian and local governmental resources to conduct the event and in this way spread the traditional folklore. The American Discovery Channel's program "Fantastic Festivals of the World" has highlighted this Lantern Festival as one of the best festivals in the world.

Events
There are many activities taking place all over the country during the Lantern Festival. The two most famous events are certainly the release of flying lanterns in Pingxi District and the firecrackers ceremony of Wumiao Temple. These two events are known together as "Fireworks in the South, Sky Lanterns in the North."
